Scientific Rationale

Understanding the processes governing the formation of stars and planets represents one of the frontiers of contemporary astrophysics.

The National Conference of Star and Planet Formation will bring together researchers from Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) and from the Italian Universities working in the field. The conference will cover the physical and chemical properties and the evolution of the forming systems, focusing in particular on the interplay of accretion and ejection processes, their role in the formation and evolution of protoplanetary disks, and the development of planetary systems within them.

The program will emphasize the most recent advances in the field, and will include discussions on how to effectively address the open and most heavily debated issues in the field.  The  scientific topics addressed will be:

Star formation in galactic environments
Young clusters
Physical properties of protoplanetary disks
Accretion on the star and from the environment
Mass ejection in winds and jets
Aggregation processes and planet formation
Chemical evolution from the prestellar cloud to planetary atmospheres.
Special attention will be paid to ensure an effective exchange between theorists and observers, and to  engage the youngest generation.
