Scientific Rationale

This workshop will have the main purpose of reviewing the state-of-the-art of observations and simulations about one of the latest hot topics in the field of extragalactic studies, the nature of ultra diffuse galaxies (UDGs). Some UDGs appear to host extreme properties in terms of their inferred dark matter content and globular cluster counts. Understanding their formation pathway(s) will reveal new insights on the more general processes of galaxy formation and inform future simulations. With new telescopes and surveys coming on line and 5 years since the last dedicated workshop, the time is ripe for a renewed focus on UDGs.

We are limiting the workshop to ~55 invited participants. While we expect most, if not all, participants to have a speaking opportunity, a large part of the time will be dedicated to discussion and working groups.
