Scientific Rationale

The conference celebrates the extraordinary scientific career and lasting legacy of Fabrizio Fiore, a pioneering astrophysicist, inspiring mentor, and cherished colleague whose work has profoundly shaped multiple fields of modern astronomy. Fabrizio’s groundbreaking contributions began with the pioneering discovery of X-ray afterglows from Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs), a breakthrough that opened entirely new observational windows and fundamentally advanced our physical understanding of these most energetic cosmic explosions and their connection to extreme phenomena in the Universe. His research has spanned and bridged high-energy astrophysics, space technologies and instrumentation, and extragalactic astronomy — with particular emphasis on the physics of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), their host galaxies and their central engines, accretion processes, and feedback mechanisms.

True to his eclectic and multidisciplinary spirit, the conference will embrace a broad scientific programme reflecting Fabrizio’s boundless curiosity. It will bring together leading experts and emerging researchers to discuss cutting-edge results and future directions in:

– Gamma-Ray Bursts and their multi-wavelength afterglows
– High-energy astrophysics and transient phenomena
– Active Galactic Nuclei, supermassive black holes, and galaxy evolution
– Space-based observatories, technologies, and instrumentation for high-energy and extragalactic multi-messenger astrophysics
