Title:
A New Generation of Galaxy Clusters Surveys
When:
04.07.2011 - 09.07.2011
Category:
Conferences 2011

Description

Sesto11_Cluster_posterClusters of galaxies are considered the places where Astrophysics and Cosmology come together.

Over the next five years, an impressive amount of new surveys and in-depth observations of galaxy clusters are expected to fuel landmark progress in our understanding of structure formation and the main constituents of the cosmos, i.e. dark matter and dark energy, as well as the nature of gravity.

A number of upcoming surveys from ground and space, from submillimiter to the X-ray wavelengths (e.g. Planck, SZ-SPT/ACT, CLASH, DES, Pan-STARRS, eROSITA), will complement current studies thus delivering data with a vast long-term legacy. The explotation of these data sets will call for imaginative new ways of data analysis and theoretical interpretation.

This workshop aims at bringing together scientists representing a number of these new projects to discuss first results, the paths forward and to foster collaborations in the informal and beautiful atmosphere of the Sesto Center for Astrophyscs.
