Where:
Sexten Primary School - Via Panorama 6, Sexten
Category:
Conferences 2013

Description

This workshop is honouring the pioneering contributions of Mike Irwin to surveys of galaxies in the Local Group and beyond. We will focus mainly on the evolution of dwarf galaxies of all morphological types, both as individuals and as satellites of more massive systems. We will cover Colour-Magnitude Diagram analyses of nearby galaxies to determine their star formation histories.  Dwarfs

We will discuss spectroscopic studies of resolved stellar kinematics, and accompanying dynamic models, and detailed abundance studies of individual stars, and chemical evolution modeling for the Milky Way, its surrounding dwarf galaxies, as well as M31 and its surroundings. We will cover detailed studies of the gas and dust properties of galaxies. We will also look beyond the Local Group to see what similar techniques can offer to our understanding of more distant systems.  The latest results from a variety of exciting recent surveys will be presented.
